O2 Yoga Teachers

Mimi Loureiro

Mimi Loureiro

Mimi has been living and breathing her dream of being a full-time yoga teacher since she created O2 Yoga in 1998. O2 is a system she believes is like no other for changing and improving body, mind, and spirit. She has a BS in nutrition, a BA in psychology, and an MS in exercise physiology. Feeling centered, grounded and peaceful involves all facets of the physical and energetic body. Yoga is a natural extension of this belief. “Yoga represents a way of harnessing all the good energy, focusing it on one point, to create a more harmonious individual and therefore a more peaceful world,” she says. Her infectious enthusiasm and love for teaching comes through in everything she does. She specializes in strong anatomical focus, adjusting the body to better align and strengthen the spine and therefore create better posture, better mood, better interactions with the world, and a more centered and quiet mind.

Mimi’s creation, O2 Yoga, is a unique system that draws from the philosophy of the eight-limbed path of Patanjali. O2 Yoga is athletic, empowering, energizing, and life-changing. O2 Yoga is a community of teachers and students who believe in the connection to all living beings and therefore our responsibility to be conscious of all of our actions, words, and intentions. O2 Yoga encourages a proactive interaction with the world.

Mimi has been thrilled to receive many “Best of” awards including both Somerville and Cambridge Scout’s Honored several years in a row, just to name a few! Most importantly, she is inspired every day by her husband, Steven, her two boys, Dylan and Deven, and her family’s ever-increasing number of animals, including their dog Mate and their pig Ender. Mimi runs teacher training and retreats locally and internationally. She is also incredibly joyful and passionate about vegan cooking, home schooling, animals, traveling with her family, and sailing on their family’s antique sailboat.

Elliott McEldowney

Elliott McEldowney

- Somerville Studio Manager

I came to yoga after a history as a runner followed by a near endless stint in graduate school and substantial time in the gym, all of which left me chronically sore and tight. What I found in yoga was a way to challenge myself physically, intellectually, and emotionally and heal my body. I try to incorporate that combination of challenge and healing in my teaching. I have trained with Beryl Bender Birch, Ana Forrest, Baron Baptiste, Richard Freeman, and Mimi Loureiro. My classes incorporate strength, flexibility, effort, and surrender.

Dawn Erickson

Dawn Erickson

As a lifelong dancer, Dawn was thrilled when she discovered that her brain processes a yoga sequence the same way as choreography. From her first class at O2, she’s been hooked on the joy and sense of calm that yoga brings. Since leaving for California a few years ago, O2 Yoga is the one thing she’s missed the most, and being able to reconnect with O2 through virtual classes has been one of the brightest silver linings during a really challenging period of time. She loves learning something new every time she’s on her mat, and hopes to bring that same spirit into her classes balanced with the playfulness that makes O2 so much fun.

Jimena Bermejo

Jimena Bermejo

Jimena is the director of the Dance program at The College of the Holy Cross and faculty at Berklee College of Music where she teaches movement for musicians. She has been a dancer (modern/contemporary) her whole life. Throughout the years, she tried different types of yoga and it just never “clicked”. It was either too hot or too preachy or it didn’t feel safe for her body, but once she tried O2 Yoga everything changed! She likes the athleticism, anatomical awareness, and fun sequencing that O2 classes offer, and in 2021, she completed the O2Teacher Training program. Jimena likes a yoga class that is fun, clear, and challenging. As a teacher, she hopes to bring these qualities to her classes. She loves cats, music, art, food, and above everything, spending time with her son.

Carol Ciaravino

Carol Ciaravino

I discovered yoga in mid-life through a class at Brookline Adult Education. I found yoga to be a bright light for its simplicity. Just show up. Come to the mat and practice, practice, practice. Accept who you are and where you are in this moment. Over the past decade yoga has woven itself into the fabric of my life. Yoga has given me a feeling of peacefulness, a sense of optimism that I can do things that I once would have thought impossible and a connection to the wonderful teachers and community of O2. A friend of mine says that we teach what we most want to learn and so it is that I teach yoga.

Barrett Reinhorn

Barrett Reinhorn

Barrett Lauck Reinhorn (Certified Yoga Teacher [CYT], 500 hours) has been teaching yoga since 1998 throughout the metro Boston area. She teaches beginner through advanced vinyasa yoga, and specializes in prenatal/postnatal yoga. Trained in Astanga Vinyasa yoga and Interdisciplinary Yoga, Barrett melds asana, breath, music, philosophy, and rhythmic improvisational movement into her vinyasa sessions. Every class of Barrett’s is different, combining the energies of sun (dynamic warmth) and moon (calming cool) so that students are deeply rooted in their bodies and yet light and free in spirit. Additionally, Barrett teaches prenatal and postnatal teacher trainings. She brings to her teacher training extensive training in yoga for the childbearing year along with experience as a doula, childbirth educator and mother.

Kate Brigham

Kate Brigham

With a background in ballet and modern dance, I had always dabbled in yoga as a complementary physical practice, but it wasn’t until I joined the incredible community here at O2 that it became a cornerstone of my life. Aside from the obvious physical effects, I found yoga changing me in emotional and spiritual ways I had never expected and while initially they seemed contradictory, I soon realized they were in fact complementary- I was becoming simultaneously stronger and more flexible, both more focused and taking myself less seriously, increasingly patient and quicker. I soon realized this quest for balance was what I had been(and continue) searching for. Each time I come to the mat I discover something new about myself and others- I always leave feeling better than when I arrived. I am thrilled to be teaching, in the hopes that I can share some of the amazing benefits that I have gained from yoga with others.

Emily Sullivan

Emily Sullivan

I appreciate yoga for the simple fact that it is not a sport or a performance; the big event is the practice itself. Having grown up in the world of classical ballet, this concept was once very foreign to me. I signed up for yoga in college, and I didn’t get it. The dancer in me was concerned with wrenching my leg the highest or balancing the longest, and I was annoyed by the reminders to breath. I dropped the class. Years later, after becoming a massage therapist, I was paying more attention to self-care and wellness. I decided to give breathing another chance. I went to O2 because it was near my house, and I have stayed because I’ve found the practice healing for both mind and body. Today, my approaches to bodywork and to yoga-teaching constantly play off of each other. I’m lucky to have found a second home at O2 as a teacher, a massage therapist, and a member of a fun and supportive community.

Toby Chaiken

Toby Chaiken

Stumbling into O2 on a cold January day in 2013, I soon found myself much warmer with a smile on my face. My yoga journey started back at Wellesley College, where I took yoga to fulfill a PE requirement. I didn’t dive in until I found O2. Yoga has taught me slow down, breathe deeply, and stay focused – lessons that have helped me both on and off the mat. I completed my teacher training in the fall of 2015, and I’m excited to share my love for yoga with others. See you on the mat!

Tina Millar

Tina Millar

One steady constant that has remained through life is being an athlete. I grew up playing year-round soccer and continued playing through college. After transplanting to Boston and looking for a change, I began to train and competed in powerlifting, where I hold a New England squat record. Yoga never struck me as ‘athletic’ until I took my first heated Power Yoga class. I was immediately hooked, later stumbling upon O2 and their upcoming teacher training. O2 was like a breath of fresh air: unique sequences, hands-on adjustments, specific alignment cues, and community. I greatly appreciate and admire the foundations of the O2 yoga style. Since graduating from the 2016 O2 Teacher Training, I completed Prenatal Teacher Training with O2’s very own Barrett, as well as trainings in baby, toddler and children’s yoga with ChildLight Yoga. Off the mat you can find me working in dog rescue, traveling and gardening.

Jill Rodgers

Jill Rodgers

Jill had a spotty yoga practice until the opening of the O2 Cambridge studio in the fall of 2012. She opted for the 2-week unlimited pass and never looked back. She developed a daily practice, hooked on O2’s unique combination of mindful breath, careful alignment, and creative, athletic sequencing. Jill joined the Workstudy team a couple years later, then began managing the Desk Staff in Somerville, and completed the O2 Teacher Training in 2016.  In Fall 2017, she also completed Level I of Barrett’s Prenatal Teacher Training. She is happy and grateful to be a multifaceted member of the vibrant O2 community: student, staff, and teacher. Jill loves asanas that involve spinal extension and twists; bakasana and warrior 1 make her sad. Off the mat, her interests include food, filmmaking, and feminism.
