Getting to Know You: Becky Field

Today we’d like to take a moment to introduce you to Becky Field, a recent graduate of the Teacher Training Class of 2018, who taught the 7pm Rajas Hour in Cambridge during April. Becky started doing yoga during a summer break during college, but didn’t truly connect with the practice until years later when she found some classes to try on YouTube.  “For many years, I was intimidated by the idea of a yoga studio. I was fearful that my inexperience or struggle with ‘simple’ poses wouldn’t be welcome. On YouTube, I found...

Student & Community Info About Cambridge Closing

We were sad to share the news in our March 1st newsletter that our Cambridge location will be closing this spring after seven wonderful years. We had hoped that another similar business would be able to take over our space, but the landlords have instituted a 400% rent increase, making that impossible. Since March 1st, we recommended both verbally at the desk and with signage posted around the studio that students who only practice in Cambridge should buy class packages that worked with the time frame of the studio’s end date. Any...

Getting to Know You: Mary Laughridge

Today we’d like to take a moment to introduce you to Mary Laughridge, a recent graduate of the Teacher Training Class of 2018, who is now teaching the Saturday 5pm Intermediate class in Somerville. Mary started doing yoga at a YMCA in her native North Carolina back in 2015.  At the time she was looking for ways to get in shape. “I had no idea about the mind/body connection or the benefits of breathing,” she said.  When she moved to the Cambridge area about a year later, she continued exploring yoga studios before spotting...

Getting to Know You: Gaby Hauray

Today we’d like to take a moment to introduce you to Gaby Hauray, a recent graduate of the Teacher Training Class of 2018, who will be teaching the Monday 12:30pm Basics class for the Cambridge studio’s final month of April. Gaby started doing yoga about five years ago but got more invested in her practice two and a half years ago when she moved a block away from our Somerville location.  “Once I started going [to O2 Somerville] I was hooked,” she said, adding, “Every class left me feeling strong and weightless...

Getting to Know You: Emily Reiniger

We are excited to be welcoming new teachers to the schedule this spring!  Today, we’ll take a moment to introduce you more formally to Emily Reiniger, now teaching the 4pm Rajas Hour on Saturdays in Cambridge. Emily started doing yoga first with a DVD borrowed from the public library and then as part of the training regimen for her high school track team. “I remember enjoying balancing on one foot and breathing ‘like a rabbit,'” she recalled with a laugh.  Eventually in college, she got into a more regular practice...

Astanga Pro-Tips

Are you curious about Astanga classes but nervous just to jump in and give it a try?  We’ve got pro tips & helpful hints that may make it a little less intimidating class to try out! First, we recommend Astanga for experienced students.  While there are modifications offered for poses, just like a regular O2-style class, the pace of Astanga is a little quicker because there’s a lot to get to!  In Primary Series, students who are Intermediate-level and beyond will recognize many of the postures, but it’s helpful to have a...
