Mimi, Steven, Dylan, and Deven
Dear O2 and VO2 Family & Friends,
First and foremost, thank you for being part of the dream that our family has built over the past 20 years. Steven, Dylan, Deven, and I have always done things as a family. We travel together, work together, play together, learn together, and get through difficulties together. We believe in doing everything with thoughtfulness, conviction, consistency, and most importantly, love. You may or may not know that my son Dylan has been battling cancer since he was 12-years-old. Three and a half years later, we are still battling this terrible monster called cancer. Through it all, we have tried our best to stay to true to everything we believe.
Our businesses are an extension of who we are and what we believe in. Hopefully, if you have been a student at O2 and/or a customer of our all-vegan cafe, VO2, you can see and feel all of the work, integrity, love, and respect we put into everything we do, especially our businesses. One of our beliefs have always been to participate in the businesses we own. Why should anyone want to go there if we don’t want to be there? That said, the challenges we have experienced over the past few years have stretched us way beyond our ability to “do it all.” Our family has always been Priority #1 so we have been spending a significant amount of time away from our businesses in order to support the health and well-being of our two beautiful boys.
We have an enormous support system for which I cannot express my gratitude enough. That said, because my energy is so stretched, I tend to update the group as a whole rather than individuals. If you want to know more about what has been happening, feel free to join or visit our Facebook page, Love for the Carpenters. If you contact me directly, please don’t take offense to my lack of response. I always appreciate all the love and thoughtfulness of our tribe but cannot always find the energy to get out of bed never mind all of the things that need to get done in a regular day with a very sick kid. That is also why I would appreciate it if you did not ask me about anything personal if you see me at work. I need to focus and compartmentalize when away from home.
Luckily, we have an incredibly dedicated, talented, and loving staff who really keep things running well while we take care of our family. I cannot again express my gratitude and respect for our staff, especially Elliott, Sarah, and Stephanie who keep O2 and VO2 the best and most wonderful place to work, practice yoga, eat good food, and be part of an amazing and incredibly powerful community. I completely trust our managers to keep the success and integrity of our businesses and am incredibly lucky to have these three incredible people, as well as our amazing teachers and cafe staff keeping to love alive.
When asked the question “What can I do to help,” one of the best answers that I can give you as our O2 and VO2 community is please keep coming in. Please keep supporting us if you believe in us. Please tell your friends and family to come in! It is hard enough to run a business when you believe in doing it right, with fairness, respect, and being environmentally and socially responsible. It is a million times harder now that we have an ongoing and incredibly difficult family situation. So, thank you for all of your support and please, please, keep it up.
With peace, love, respect, and tremendous gratitude,
